Ashley Michelle Tisdale (born July 2, 1985[1]) is an American actress and singer. Better known for her role as Maddie Fitzpatrick on the Disney Channel Original Series The Suite Life of Zack & Cody and as Sharpay Evans in High School Musical, High School Musical 2 and will reprise her role in High School Musical 3: Senior Year. As of August 2008, Tisdale is voicing Candace Flynn in the Disney Channel original series Phineas and Ferb. Tisdale has also pursued a solo music career, and released her debut album Headstrong on February 6, 2007.

Tisdale was born in Monmouth County, New Jersey on July 2, 1985,[2] to Lisa (née Morris) and Mike Tisdale. She grew up there in Ocean Township. Her elder sister Jennifer Tisdale is also an actress. Tisdale is Jewish[3][4] and her maternal grandfather is Arnold Morris, the developer of Ginsu Knives; and through her grandfather, she is also related to businessman Ron Popeil.[5] She was discovered by Bill Perlman, her current manager, at South Shores Mall, when she was three.[6] At the age of eight, she got a leading role in the Broadway musical, Les Misérables and later toured internationally with the cast of Annie.[6] She began acting, appearing in stage productions of Gypsy: A Musical Fable and The Sound of Music at the Jewish Community Center of Monmouth County.[7][8] adsense

"I wanted to be like her," she recalls.[4] However, she felt insecure about her appearance, particularly of her large, obvious ears. So at 11, she had cosmetic surgery done to get her ears pinned back. She had complications from the surgery for the two years following.[10] In 2006 on The Tyra Banks Show, she said that the surgery had been a bad experience for her and that she was discouraged from having plastic surgery again. She has three older sisters: Elizabeth Judina, Emily Jeannette, and Esmeralda Josephina. The family lived and worked on farmland that had been handed down to them from past generations, but they often had very little money; Enrique and Ella struggled for many years to give their children a decent upbringing. Longoria showed viewers an introspect into the hardship she faced in her formative years growing up poor on The Oprah Winfrey Show in 2006; she took cameras on location to the family farm, and showed how spartan they were still living. Longoria admitted that only when she made it in show business did things begin to look better for them financially. In an interview with Dateline's Stone Phillips, Longoria also revealed the snubbing she received from her siblings. She said "I grew up as the ugly duckling. They used to call me 'la prieta fea,' which means 'the ugly dark one.'"[3]

Longoria originally wanted to be a fashion model and sent in photos to a modelling agency but was declined because of her height. Longoria attended Marvin P. Baker Middle School and later Roy Miller High School, receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in kinesiology at nearby Texas A&M University-Kingsville. During this time, she won the title of Miss Corpus Christi, USA in 1998. After completing college, Longoria entered a talent contest that led her to Los Angeles; shortly after, she was spotted and signed by a theatrical agent.[4] adsense
